Shotokan Karate

We are all about the practice and perfection of Shotokan Karate. Our style of Shotokan karate was taught by our Sinsi Mr. Robert Skinner who was a (4th Dan). Mr. Skinner received his instruction from Sinsi Hidetaka Nishiyama a(10th Dan). Mr. Skinner would tell us from time to time that his classes had taught over 10,000 students producing over 300 Black Belts. The core elements of our style are: (a) proper diaphragm breathing, (b) whole body connection, (c) proper stance, and (d) quick offensive and defensive movements.

We believe that these elements are the bases of our sound program. Diaphragm breathing refers to: breathing from the stomach. Whole body connection refers to: our bodies being linked together and moving continuously as one unit. Our stance is the foundation of all our movements. Offensive movement is: first movement without waiting or seeing a cue from the attacker.

I feel these elements increasing and coming together more each day for myself and our students. It’s difficult finding the proper words to describe the true meaning of what our practices do for the whole body. We embrace Mr. Skinner’s teachings and encourage all our students and new students to join us on our exploration of the practice and training of Japanese Shotokan Karate.
